Sublime Text Package Control

A quick summary of how to install and use the Package Control package manager for Sublime Text.

There are many plugins and packages to improve Sublime Text. An easy way to get all those packages is using Package Control, a package manager created by Will Bond. To install Package Control just open the Sublime Text console (shortcut Ctrl + `) and paste and run the following code:

import urllib2,os; pf='Package Control.sublime-package'; ipp=sublime.installed_packages_path(); os.makedirs(ipp) if not os.path.exists(ipp) else None; urllib2.install_opener(urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.ProxyHandler())); open(os.path.join(ipp,pf),'wb').write(urllib2.urlopen(''+pf.replace(' ','%20')).read()); print 'Please restart Sublime Text to finish installation'

And restart Sublime Text.

To install packages, on OS X just press ? + Shift + P then type "package control" and select "Package Control: Install Package". It will show a list of all the available packages. Search a package by typing some letters of the name of the package (for example 'markdown') and it will only show the packages that contains that word. Choose the one you want and press <Enter>. Sublime Text will download the package and install it.

Here are some of the most useful packages for Web Developers:

  • HtmlTidy - Formats HTML code for easy viewing.
  • IndentXML - Indents XML code to help to identify every element.
  • ZenCoding - Helps the Web Developer to write HTML code more quickly.
